Bram van VELDE (Zoeterwoude-Dorp 1895 - Grimaud 1981)
At the age of twelve, Bram van Velde worked for a home furnishing firm to provide for the family's needs. He was a natural, copying the old masters from an early age and decorating furniture and lampshades for his firm. His employer had an eye for his great talent and encouraged him to develop further. Bram van Velde was educated at painting and decoration studio Van Schaijk. Lives and works in France
Bram van Velde left for Germany and settled in the artists' colony of Worpswede. Here, in addition to a number of paintings in expressionist style, he made his first lithograph - a self-portrait. It appeared in an edition of the artists' colony in an edition of 500 copies. In 1924 he left for Paris with his brother Gerard. Paris was really Bram van Velde's school.
