Heikki ORVOLA (Helsinki 1943)
After completing his studies in ceramics, designer Heikki Orvola started working at the Nuutajärvi glass factory under the direction of Kaj Franck. The first designs he designed there were to complement Richard Lindh's tableware for Arabia. It is important to mention that these two companies were under the same management and that is why this collaboration took place. Over the years, Orvola designed various glass products. In 1976 he decided to study in America where he was inspired by the American glass industry. Traveling to other parts of the world also leaves a deep impression on Orvola. His oeuvre consists of very expressive designs that have been created with different techniques and experimental design. Orvola designed both exclusive objects and designs for mass production. This is characteristic of many Scandinavian designers. In addition to his work at Nuutajärvi, Orvola also worked at Arabia, Järvenpää and designed textiles for Marimekko.
