Joost Beerents (1963)
Joost BEERENTS was born in 1963. She studied art history at the University of Florence in Italy. Joost Beerents stayed in Florence for 2 years before returning to the Netherlands. She studied law in the city of Leiden.
Then Joost Beerents returned to Amsterdam and got a job at the auction house Sotheby's. For 3 years she worked in the Silver and Jewelery department. In the meantime she took painting lessons at the Van Gogh Museum and studied at the Rietveld Academy of Arts. After finishing her education, she decided to move on and build her career as a painter. She worked together with fellow painters in the Netherlands and also internationally she became a well-known professional.
TECHNIQUES
Joost Beerents mainly works with acrylic paint, sometimes using combinations of other materials such as paper and textiles. She likes the non-figurative aspects and prefers large formats. Her early work shows warm earthy colours, such as terra, sand and sienna. Today, a transformation is visible in the use of other colors, such as white, gray, blue and black.
Each painting has more layers, creating a sense of depth. Classical color elements or materials are used in the modern paintings. This way of creating can be considered a tribute to her favorite painters: Caravaggio, Picasso, but also Rauschenberg, Rothko and Mondrian.
