Founded in 1898 in Vienna, Austria.
Karl Hagenauer founded the Hagenauer Werkstatte in 1898 in Vienna. In the beginning they limited themselves to the production of ?Viennese bronzes? or ?wiener bronze ware? for which Vienna was known and which many other studios were also involved in.
However, shortly after the turn of the century, Hagenauer turned away from these more traditional bronzes and began working in the new more modernist art movement of the time. Art Nouveau objects were made and Hagenauer became part of ?Wiener Werkstatte? flow.
The sons Karl and Franz Hagenauer also join the company and in addition to furniture, utensils (from wood and/or metal) they also manufacture monumental statues and small sculptures.
In the 1920s and 1930s, the tendency to work increasingly abstract and minimalist was followed, which, however, was partly abandoned in the 1940s.
The work of Hagenauer Werkstatte is highly collected and can be recognized by the trademarks WHW (Werkstatte Hagenauer Wien) and ?Made in Austria?. Sometimes with the addition ?handmade?.
