Kunstaardewerkfabriek Sint Lukas was founded in Utrecht in 1909 by A. Enthoven and GJD Offermans with financial support from Anthonie Begeer. Offermans became known as a ceramist with a talent for luster glazes. Luster glaze iridescent by the addition of gold or silver. After Offermans' death in 1914, he was succeeded by JC Heytze. Subsequently, the company was continued in 1923 with A. Seinstra under the name Firma Heytze en Seinstra. In 1927, investors took over the factory, bringing back the previous name: NV Kunstaardewerkfabriek Sint Lukas Maarssen. The factory went bankrupt in 1930 and closed its doors permanently in 1933.
In the early years, Sint Lukas mainly produced decorative pottery that matched the aesthetics of the New Art. In Maarssen, simple pottery was produced on a large scale. In addition to the perfected luster glazes, Sint Lukas was known for the production of tiles and tile pictures for the De Gruyter stores, among others.
