Shunyam (1953)

Shunyam (1953)

SHUNYAM (Amsterdam 1953)

Painter, graphic artist, author.

Education:

Shunyam was educated at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.

Shunyam makes cheerful work that is reminiscent of comic strips, in which animals are central. It is very straight forward a playful work. The artist finds animals much more interesting than people, because they are pure, innocent and sincere. Painting has brought Shunyam to her own essence: all that colored cheerfulness represents how she feels. Her artist name – she came across the word Shunyam in India – also indicates a positive attitude; it means a pure, empty being that is open to creative energy. Shunyam is also an author of children's books and does a lot of charitable work.
