Terraco, voorheen St. Joris (1937-2010)

TERRACO (St. George)

(Beesel 1937 – Beesel 2010)

Herman Driessen, director of Steenfabriek St. Joris, started a department for art pottery in 1937. For this, indigenous clay from Brunsum and stoneware clay from Germany were used. Until the 1950s, the company mainly produces religious objects, but due to secularisation, the demand for these decreased and the company switched to exclusively non-religious objects. The products were made with molds as well as on the turntable. Terraco also starts manufacturing wall plastics for new churches and public buildings from the 1950s. In recent years, the company was active in the production of glazed luxury building blocks.
