Wally MOES (Laren 1856 - Amsterdam 1918)
Wally Moes was a Dutch artist of the Larensche School. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam, where she was one of the few female students. After her training she returned to Laren, which had become a popular painting village. She rented a villa here and learned a new way of painting, including from Albert Neuhuys, Anton Mauve and the German painter Max Liebermann. Where she previously painted many portraits and genre pieces, she started to paint more outdoors in the Gooi. The character of her work is very diverse, from very realistic paintings to sugary romantic scenes. These differences are also reflected in her use of colours, from very sober to bright and cheerful.
