American Abstract Artists

The artist association American Abstract Artists was founded in New York to promote greater understanding of the abstract arts. This was done by organizing lectures, exhibitions and publications. The association made abstract art accessible to a wider audience. Abstract artists in America received little support from museums and art galleries. Their work was often dismissed as too European and not American enough. After the Second World War, abstract art was accepted, the way was paved by the American Abstract Artists.
