Founded in 1806
In 1806 a society was founded whose purpose was "to practice virtue, to cultivate humanity, and to promote the arts and sciences." In 1809 the society was divided into three different parts, namely poetry, drawing and music. This society was really only aimed at the members, and didn't really need a larger audience. Where V.W. stood for was one of the great secrets of the association, and its meaning was changed every year.
