Albert Claeys lived and worked in Ghent, Mullem and Deinze. He received his training as a painter at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent (and the painter/sculptor Georg Minne).
During the First World War he served as a soldier/illustrator in the trenches at Diksmuide. He painted, drew and watercoloured landscapes, churches, interiors and portraits in the style of figurative expressionism, mainly choosing the Leie region around Sint Marttens Latem and Deinze as his subject.
He was also a drawing teacher at the Academy of Aalst. Albert Claeys participated in various (solo and group) exhibitions (including in Ghent, Brussels and Antwerp). His work is included in various private, corporate and government collections, including museums in Ghent, Antwerp, Brussels and Deinze.
