Bart Jonkers - Mandala's

Colorful abstract Mandala composition by the well-known Utrecht artist Bertus Jonkers, housed in a neat frame and passe-partout. Jonkers was a fanatic hatha yoga practitioner and fascinated by the mandala.

Jonkers was without a doubt one of the most intriguing artists in his home city of Utrecht of the past century. At his home, between 1989 and 1992, Jonkers built a miniature metropolis. He made miniature buildings and other elements of a city from sand, plaster, glue and all kinds of small materials, which together gave shape to a metropolis. This creative interpretation of a metropolis became known as the "Ideal City", but is also known as the "City of Devotion". In 1990, this art creation was shown in the Central Museum of Utrecht and in 1992 the museum purchased a large part of this miniature construction.

Jonkers' work is collected by, among others, the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, Centraal Museum Utrecht and by private collectors worldwide.

In mid-2016, several etchings by Jonkers were exhibited in the Rembrandt House during the exhibition "under the spell of Hercules Segers - Rembrandt and the moderns" a tribute to Hercules Segers (1589/90-1633/40) in collaboration with the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the Hercules Segers Founding
