Bernard Aubertin was born in a suburb of Paris. He received his education there, after which he initially began to paint autodidactically in the style of Futurism and Cubism. He is very well known for his monochrome works. For the artist, the red in his works represents fire and blood. His works have an impersonal and anonymous character. Four years after the foundation of ZERO by Heinz Mack and Otto Piene in Düsseldorf, he became a member of this experimental group. In doing so, he reacted against Art Informel, Neo Expressionism. He was very interested in creating a new art with international roots and collaborations that had to concretize new concepts and ideas. He lived and worked first in France and later in Germany.
