In his long life, painter Bertus Voortman (1916-2012) created an extensive oeuvre. Landscapes, city and village views were popular themes. He also recorded his impressions during holiday trips and made still lifes, portraits, figure and nude drawings. His posters and set designs for revues brought him wide local fame. Zutphen resident Bertus Voortman was devoted to his city. "I can never get enough of this city," he once wrote.
Throughout his life he has always depicted his immediate environment, his Zutphen. The harvest is very varied and includes many hundreds of works, in different techniques and formats. He shows locations that are still recognizable today, but also places that now offer a completely different view due to innovations.
