Gille's first education was a teacher training for art education. Then, in addition to teaching, he went to the Institut für Malerie und Graphik in Marburg for three years. From 1972 to 1976 he studied at the Royal Academy of Art and Design in Den Bosch in the graphic design department. Gille lives and works in Heusden.
In the Netherlands, Dick Cassée and Eduard Flor were important teachers for Gille. In Germany, however, Gille's love for Italy originated, partly through his teacher Gertraude Lowien who was trained there. Gille still regularly visits Tuscany, to draw inspiration from the landscape and to work in his studio there. He works with a unique intaglio technique, which he developed himself: after applying paint to a wooden plate, he deepens the images on that surface. This creates a relief that absorbs ink and gives an imprint. Gille's work has been exhibited in the United States, Germany, England and Indonesia, among other places.
