Espen Hagen - Two Indians

Espen Greger Hagen was a Norwegian painter, known for his close collaboration with the iconic Dutch artist and musician Herman Brood. From the mid-1990s, Hagen worked as Brood's right-hand man and was closely involved in Brood's creative process, until Brood's death on 11 July 2001.

Hagen’s own style was heavily influenced by his collaboration with Brood, but he also brought his unique perspective to their collaborative projects, incorporating elements of pop art and expressionism. His vibrant, dynamic works often reflect themes of rebellion, energy, and urban culture, fitting the raw, unfiltered aesthetic he and Brood both cherished.

In addition to his work with Brood, Hagen built a reputation as an independent artist within the European art scene. His work was exhibited in various galleries and attracted attention for its bold use of color and expressive style, paying homage to the artistic subcultures he and Brood supported. Espen Greger Hagen's legacy is marked by his contributions to this distinctive art movement and his collaboration with one of the Netherlands' most beloved cultural figures.

He later made frequent trips throughout North America and Mexico, where he created the portraits of the native American and Mexican peoples that made him famous.
