In 1844, brothers Huibert and Hendrik Ravesteyn started making hand-painted tiles in Utrecht under the name Ravesteyn. In 1906, the factory was taken over by Frederik des Tombe. Shortly afterwards, a pottery department was also started with utility earthenware under the name 'Potterij Rembrandt Utrecht'.
In 1917 the factory went bankrupt, but the management continued with a small number of employees under the name 'Faïence- en Tegelfabriek Westraven'.
In the late 1930s, the artist Cris Agterberg designed more expensive and decorative pottery.
In the 1950s, potter Leendert Blok, together with company manager Karel Antoon Bazuine, brought innovation to earthenware with the characteristic Chanoir earthenware.
In 1963, Westraven was taken over by De Porceleyne Fles in Delft, where in 1994 the traditional painting ceased and under the name Westraven only tiles were produced using transfer techniques.
