On the other hand, coincidences do arise, which you may or may not use." Like many graphic artists, Fenneke van der Elst initially worked mainly in black and white and color was added sporadically. Nowadays she can no longer imagine working with little color. Fenneke van der Elst has been painting a lot in recent years and color has actually become my most important means of expression. She likes the combination of painting and making graphics. The work is strongly expressionistic. Fenneke van der Elst: "I think it is a good reflection of my person and character. I use color to express myself in my work and give shape to my world of forms. I usually get inspiration close to home, but also when traveling I myself call my work my dream castles", because in my work I dream away and give shape to my own world of color and shape. I'm always overflowing with energy and ideas and often don't have enough time to shape everything that lives in me. Yet I try to create a certain peace and harmony in my world of colors and shapes. I also make my world of shapes spatial and I make sculptures of clay, which I paint after baking.
