Gèr Boosten heeft niet enkel op het gebied van grafiek - etsen, affiches en boekillustraties - internationaal zijn sporen verdiend. Ook met schilderen en het ontwerpen van theaterdecors boekte hij succes. Zijn werk getuigt van een niet aflatende dramatiek. Gèr graaft altijd dieper dan de oppervlakte. Hij is niet tevreden met het vertellen van een verhaal maar wil ideeën, onderliggende beweegredenen en emoties overbrengen. Om dit uit te drukken maakt hij veelvuldig gebruik van symboliek.
