Beautiful portrait of a woman. Beautiful soft, pastel colors.
Henri Christiaan (Han) Pieck The Helder 19-04-1895 – The Hague 12-01-1972 Henri Pieck was a flamboyant visual artist, communist, spy and resistance fighter. He was the twin brother of the famous artist Anton Pieck and father of the furniture designer and adventurer Han Pieck.
At the age of fourteen, Henri Pieck obtained the lower drawing certificate together with his brother Anton. Three years later they passed their secondary education. After this, Henri Pieck went on to further education at the Amsterdam Academy of Visual Arts.
Pieck is the twin brother of Anton Pieck, unknown to the general public. He also made graphic work that is valued even more highly by connoisseurs than that of his famous brother. His work is also much rarer. According to Anton, his brother was a genius artist, a greater artist than himself. Several times he expressed his disappointment that Henri had made so little use of his great talent.
It was only after Anton Pieck's death that the life his brother had led became public. While Anton spent forty troubled years as a teacher at the Kennemer Lyceum, Henri entered the world of espionage. He was one of Stalin's most valuable agents and managed to penetrate the Foreign Office in London. After the war, Anton achieved great success, while his brother Henri, like so many colleagues, feared being murdered by the Soviet Union. During the war he was in the resistance.
