Frans Leufkens van Anstel, the painter, was a talented artist during his lifetime. Born in May 1863 in Voerendaal, he started his career as a painter at the age of 17 at the Painting and Drawing School in Aachen. His focus was mainly on painting landscapes and cityscapes.
After training with an experienced decorative painter and the Hague School, he continued his education in Düsseldorf, where he came into contact with Jacob Reinders. Reinders taught him the right drawing skills and a pure and steady relationship with nature. The landscape was one of his favorite subjects.
