Jac. J. Koeman - Etching Milk Time

Beautiful, rustic etching: Milking time from 1941. Three cows at a wooded bank, beautifully detailed trees in the background. In wooden frame. Etching is a bit wrinkled here and there, but not damaged. Hand signed.

Jac. J. Koeman (name variants: Jacobus Jan Koeman, Ko Koeman; monogrammed as JACJK or JAC JK) was born on 16 November 1889 in Edam and died on 11 November 1978 in Bergen NH. Koeman followed artistic education at the Quellinus School of Applied Arts in Amsterdam and at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam; furthermore, as a visual artist he was mainly self-taught. He also took lessons from Antoon Derkinderen. Later he counted among his own students, among others, Nol Binsbergen, Ferdinand Boersma, Corry Borst, Nic de Carpentier, Florette Horninge-Jacobs, Lodewijk Willem van Kooten, Grietje Kots, Geesje Akke Meertens, Remmet Jacobus (1897-1972) Ouwejan, Jacob Schol, Gerrit Slavenburg, Kees Strooker, Hendrik Wegener, Gerrit N. Woudt and Isa van der Zee.
As an artist he was active in Amsterdam (Artis), Edam, Zaandam, Blaricum, Bergen Nh., London and Paris.
Koeman was active as an artist in many areas (painter, watercolorist, draftsman, sculptor, ceramist, sculptor, graphic artist, maker of woodcuts, etcher, lithographer and illustrator.
His favorite subjects were animal representations, (flower) still lifes, figure studies (his main subject), figure representations, (winter) landscapes, nudes, portraits, Christian-religious representations and cityscapes. He worked a lot with oil and watercolor. In addition, he was also an 'art producer' of illustrations and masks [think of the Verkade albums (animals, flowers, plants, etc.)].
Koeman was a member of the Association of Visual Artists Laren-Blaricum, of the Gooische Kunstkring, of the Association Sint Lucas in Amsterdam and of the Artists' Centre Bergen (KCB).
