Young or sick crow, looking up at mosquito. Woodcut from 1918, brown print on cream-colored chinois paper, signed in pencil in the bottom margin “J.Mankes”. Image size 11.8 x 10.2 cm, paper 20x18, frame 31 x 26 cm. Prints of this woodcut are known in three different colors, Mankes writes about those color experiments in his letters. Most in black, fewer in brown and only a few in yellow. This copy is in perfect condition, the paper of the woodcut is completely intact, because the woodcut is not attached with tape or glue but is set in acid-free plastic “slots” (see the photos). Tastefully framed in a narrow wooden frame and simple acid-free paper passe-partout. With clamp springs on the back, so that the work can easily be removed from the frame. The woodcut was removed from the frame for the photos in indirect daylight.
