Johannus Embrosius van de Wetering, nicknamed de Rooij, was born in 1877 in Woudrichem. He lived and worked in Delft, The Hague, Heeze, Enkhuizen, Gorinchem and Oirschot. Van de Wetering de Rooij made study trips to Belgium and France. He received his first lessons from A. Le Comte in Delft, after which he became a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague. In the period 1904-1907 he was awarded the royal subsidy.
Wetering de Rooij painted and drew landscapes (river views and old cities). Work by Van de Wetering de Rooij is included in the collection of the Rijksmuseum Zuiderzeemuseum in Enkhuizen.
