Joop Haffmans was a son of grocer Constant Hendrik Haffmans and Hendrika Jaquolina Onck. He went into hiding during the Second World War to escape the Arbeitseinsatz. The airborne landings during the Battle of Arnhem made a great impression on him. In 1945, immediately after the war, he went to study at the Arnhem School of the Arts. Here he was inspired by Hendrik Valk. After the art academy, he specialized in graphic design with Cor van Velsen in Hilversum.

He designed various images, but also many house styles and letterheads for companies and institutions.
With the sculpture "The Link" Haffmans wanted to portray the connection with God.

"De Schakel" has become the logo of the Christian primary school "De Schakel" in Veenendaal.

Provided with original invoice.
