Michael Jepkes ( Amsterdam 1938 ) was educated at the Academy for Visual Education in Tilburg. He was taught there by Nico Molenkamp and Ru van Rossem, among others. The attention for graphics has always been present with him and stimulated by teacher Maarten Krabbé with all kinds of technical experiments. Initially he made linocuts and monotypes, but from the early 1970s almost exclusively etchings, in which he combines various techniques (dry point, aquatint, engraving or mezzotint) in one print.

In 1978 the size and colors in his work increase, as a result of which the composition is no longer organized intuitively but reasonedly. From 1990 he has a preference for the square surface and prints such as the Japanese series and Olympics and Zodiac are created. Today he uses a new method again. In addition to new etching plates, he also reuses existing ones by cutting them up.
Michael has a preference for narrative subjects and draws his inspiration from the range of the arts such as literature, music, dance and theatre. He takes his subject from a concrete situation of which he processes details and composition – sometimes in calligraphic handwriting – into a whole. The viewer can interpret the story in their own way. He occupies a uniquely recognizable place in the world of graphics. In addition to his free work, he also makes numerous assignments for companies and individuals.
Michael has exhibited in numerous museums and galleries in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, France and Italy: Gutenberg Museum Mainz, Gemeentemuseum Breda, Museo del'lnformazione Senigallia, Ingbank Nederland, ABN-AMRO-bank Nederland, Bonnefantenmuseum Maastricht, participation in group exhibitions in Asia and Africa. His work is in numerous private and public collections.
