In Seligenstadt (Germany) the installation "Fliegender Wechsel" by Ottmar Hörl was staged in 1994. 1,000 Blue Gnomes divided into group formations and over the course of a few days they appeared in new locations and formations that affected the city, such as in the city center, industrial area, river bank, station area, etc.
Then they were left to fend for themselves. The installation stopped as soon as the gnomes were taken by people. This effect of the disappearance of the entire dwarf population is deliberately calculated and desired, it is a goal of the whole project.
In 2006 a new edition of these gnomes was released, now also in various colors. And they are spread all over the world.
