Peter Heij, Utrecht 1960. Lives and works in the Auvergne, Puy de Dôme, France. Completed the Royal Academy of Art and Design (akv | St Joost) in Den Bosch, specializing in painting (1982-1987). In this period, and afterwards, worked figuratively, expressively and even abstractly to continue in 1991 with the realism that had initially started in childhood.
Themes and subjects relate to man and identity in relation to the environment (Figures/Gestalten series), landscapes with reconstructions of the past (Lostlands) or skyscapes as an attempt to capture and shape the elusive (Skyscapes). More recent are the landscapes with traces of the inhabitants (Santa Fe footpaths) or faces as sketches of memories (Faces).
With the Photo paintings, the realistic representation of the photo is intervened with paint or another technique. Through this intervention, the recorded and stilled reality is changed, questioned and put into perspective.

Central is elevation above and alienation from everyday reality without losing sight of reality in order to find different or perhaps new insights and awareness.

Galerie Acculade, Amsterdam IJburg, where the similarity between older and more recent work was shown on the basis of the theme Inner and Outer World (2008). The Gestalten/Figures series have been shown in Sint Antoniesbreestraat, among others, on behalf of the art committee of Wijkcentrum d' Oude Stadt/Stadsdeel Amsterdam Centrum (2005).

Relevant trips include the US (including 9/12/17/2003), Italy (1973-2010), Vietnam (2001), Sri Lanka (1999), Thailand (1995/6) and Indonesia (1994/1997 ).
