Information about the artist: Piet Klaasse (Sloten, September 1918 - Eemnes, November 2001) was a Dutch watercolourist, graphic artist, graphic designer, illustrator, lithographer, painter, draftsman and art teacher. -Education: Academy of Visual Arts (The Hague) 1937-1940 on the advice of Paul Citroen. Piet Klaasse worked in Amsterdam and lived in Eemnes since 1964. After working as a drawing teacher at the Montessori Lyceum in Amsterdam, Piet Klaasse taught for 34 years at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (and its predecessor) in Amsterdam (from 1947 to 1981). He received a Golden Pencil in 1980 for the illustrations of Sagas and Legends of the Low Countries by Eelke de Jong. Subjects of his art: figure representation, Jewish genre, landscape (as a genre), war, horse representation, portrait, figures making music, especially jazz musicians.
