About the artist:
Raphaël Hermans (Maastricht, 1974) passionately combines his two great loves: visual art and music. He grew up in an artistic family where there was plenty of room for creativity, partly inspired by his grandfather Toon.
The young Hermans was inspired by his grandfather. 'As a boy of nine I painted with him in his studio. There were hundreds of art books in his house. Art was there for the taking and was, as it were, spoon-fed to me.
Since 2008 he has been active in both disciplines: as a sought-after bass player and as a visual artist whose work can be found in many private and corporate collections. The artist knows how to make his inspiration tangible in his own way. Whether paintings, collages or sculptures, in Raphaël's art concise compositions are enriched with colors that don't have to scream to be noticed. In terms of theme, Raphaël likes contrasts. Feelings of tension and loving security can sometimes be found in one and the same composition.
