This train, painted on the canvas the Blue Angel Summer, is almost completely hidden behind the man-sized summer hogweed. The Blue Angel summer is part of an extensive collection of artworks by Rein Pol about the train De Blauwe Engel.
From his home, Rein Pol has a view of the Groningen – Roodeschool railway line and was inspired to paint the passing trains with a love of history. He captured the Blue Angel (in red) in all 4 seasons.
What is the Blue Angel The trains were nicknamed Blue Angel in 1954 because of their blue colour. They were diesel-electric trains, built in Rotterdam. They were overhauled in the 1960s and painted red in the then usual color for diesel equipment. The original nickname Blue Angel remained despite the color change. Between 1975 and 1986, the Blue Angels were replaced by the latest diesel-hydraulic equipment, the Wadlopers. Most Blue Angels have been demolished, a few have been renovated and preserved.
Execution & Edition Rein Pol's Blue Angel is produced as a giclee in two formats. It is only available in the size 50 x 60 cm with a limited edition of 250 pieces (unfortunately the small size has already reached the edition). The giclée comes with a certificate signed by the artist with the unique edition number.
