Reinald van den Steene (Rotterdam, 1937 - 2009) studied at the Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. He grew up with art. He inherited his love for art from his father Cuno, a monumental and religious artist. Van den Steene works in various techniques and styles: oil paint, watercolor, drawings, linocuts. The subjects of his oeuvre often have a strong symbolic character. Intimate portraits of women and scenes from the Bible are some of his themes, but nature is also a source of inspiration. His work has a poetic character, through composition and use of color he manages to create a remarkably intimate atmosphere in his work. In 1970 Reinald van den Steene won the Jeanne Bieruma-Oosting prize.
