Flory Roland was a Belgian painter and sculptor born in Liège in 1905 and died in 1978.
She studied from 1921 to 1930 with Jacques Ochs and Emile Berchmans, then in 1932 with Oscar Berchmans at the Académie Royale des Beaux Arts in Liège, where she taught until 1970, mainly in the field of decorative arts.
In Paris she also studied with O. Friesz and Charles Dufresne between 1930 and 1932.
She was a member of the Cercle des Beaux-Arts in Liège, where she exhibited from 1940 to 1974.
This work is possibly a self-portrait from the early 1950s. On the back of the frame is a kind of dedication written. It is difficult to read, but seems to start with 'A ma cher Chichita..' and ends with 'amicalement, Flory'.
Judging by a raised piece of canvas on the back, the work has probably undergone a small repair, but nothing of this is visible on the front. It is otherwise in excellent condition.
