Kwint was trained at the Academy for Visual Arts and Applied Arts in Arnhem. He was taught free painting by Fred Sieger; he learned graphic techniques from Hendrik Valk. After completing his studies in Arnhem in 1957, Kwint moved to Amsterdam. At the National Normal School he took the preparatory class for admission to the Academy; he met his later art friend Paul Werner there. He was admitted to the Rijksakademie where he was taught by Charles Roelofsz, among others.
He received several stipends during his life, including a Royal subsidy, several travel grants from the French and Dutch governments, the Willink van Collen Prize and a shared Language Prize in 1961.
He had a solo exhibition at Galerie De Sfinx in Amsterdam (1966), a joint exhibition with Anton Buytendijk and Theo Ros in Arti et Amicitiae (Amsterdam 1969) and in Bergen (NH) his own exhibition at the KunstenaarsCentrumBergen (KCB) (1974) . The press was often full of praise. Maarten Beks characterized the artist with the one-liner 'From painting prophet to prophetic draftsman', Alain Teister daring with 'fascinating fantasies', Hans Redeker declared Steven Kwint 'an expressionist par excellence', Lambert Tegenbosch appreciated the 'fairytale, caricatured figuration', Fanny Kelk identified 'fertility' as a central motif in titles and working method, and Ed Wingen noted that the painter could also handle large formats and 'his color is fresh and open'. The monograph Steven Kwint, painter and graphic artist, compiled by Han Veelders and Aart J. Leemhuis, was published in 2011.
