Thijs Mauve (1915-1996) was a painter, both in oil and watercolor, graphic artist, illustrator, wood engraver, book binding designer and maker of bookplates. He was the grandson of painter Anton Mauve, one of the founders of the Laren School. Thijs attended the School of the Arts in The Hague. His main inspiration and subject matter was the landscape, that of his living environment in particular. In 1943 he came to Lunteren, where he settled after the Second World War. In 1979 he moved to Devon on the south coast of England, where he died in 1996.
