Saint-Valery-sur-Somme is a commune in the Somme department on the northwest coast of France.
Even before the Romans occupied Gaul, there was a small Gallic settlement at the location of today's Saint-Valery-sur-Somme. In the Roman period it grew into a village.
Saint-Valery was a popular destination in the 19th century for artists and writers such as Victor Hugo, Jules Verne, Sisley and Degas, who all owned a villa in the town.
