  • The painter Thomas Niggl initially studied architecture in Munich. In 1969 he founded the Omnibus publishing house with Heimrad Prem and Christian d'Orville and published the collective project 'Omnibus News'. In 1976 he became a member of the Munich artist group 'Kollektiv Herzogstrasse' and travelled to Sweden several times with the other members for longer painting stays. In the 1960s and 1970s, Niggl spent a lot of time in Amsterdam and took part in numerous happenings and actions. In 1983/84 and again recently, he campaigned for houses threatened with demolition in the Upper Palatinate and Lower Bavaria. This helped save the former poorhouse in Cham, which is now home to the SPUR Museum, and the Schießl House in Kollnburg, where artist-in-residence programmes are to take place.

The artist lives and works in Feldafing and near Arezzo (IT).
