Willem Speekenbrink - Bozetto 'Architecture Interior' ceramics

Willem Speekenbrink made this image during a working period in the EKWC European Ceramic Work Center, which was then located on the Zuid Willemsvaart in 's-Hertogenbosch.

Speekenbrink himself writes on his website:
"Unexpected combinations are the main source of inspiration in all of my works of art. The obvious becomes problematized. Nothing is what it seems which is characteristic for the current culture that seems to coherent of disinformation and threatens to fall apart. The beauty of destruction is horrifying."

This statue has a glaze that contains copper, which gives it a great appearance.

The work is literally and figuratively versatile! Each rotation produces a completely new impression.

Every moment of the day and every variation in light intensity shows a different character of the work.

Speekenbrink succeeds in combining a mainly cubist form with an almost alien covering that brings a lot of tension to the image.

The sculpture belongs to a series of ceramic works that were created during a three-month working period at the EKWC and was acquired directly from the artist (photo attached).

The EKWC is a breeding ground for research in ceramics. Approximately sixteen visual artists, designers, architects, designers and other creative professionals are permanently present to express their own expertise in clay and glaze. That work is entrusted to the fire and then shared with the world. The EKWC is now located in Oisterwijk and still regularly has Test Cases where the public can witness the research into ceramics by the Artists in Residence.
