Natura Artis Magistra

Natura Artis Magistra, nature is the teacher of art, was founded as the Royal Zoological Society. The aim of Artis is to stimulate love and care for nature. This meant both nature in living form and in non-living form. The zoo is best known for Artis. In addition, Artis also had a collection of naturalia, which was initially at least as important as the zoo. These naturalia eventually ended up in the Naturalis Biodiversity Center and the ethnological collection went to the Tropenmuseum.
