Beautiful watercolor by Charles Dankmeijer (signed lower left), titled 'Hemelseberg Eendjesvijver'. Probably from the period when he lived in Oosterbeek, since Landgoed De Hemelse Berg (with mansion, gardens, woods and ponds) is located there. The penultimate image is a black-and-white photo of this location, from the Gelders Archive.
The work is in the original wooden frame including glass plate, with a sticker of 'Joh. Gerritsen Meubel- en Kunsthandel Oosterbeek' and name and address details of (presumably) the owner/client.

Background
In 1896 Dankmeijer moved into the 'Parre' house on the Benedendorpseweg in Oosterbeek and lived with his family in Oosterbeek (municipality of Renkum) until about 1908. In and around Renkum Dankmeijer mainly painted landscapes, often using existing elements in nature that he composed according to his own insight. His work was very popular, in the Netherlands and abroad. On 08-03-1987 the Dagblad van Zuidholland en 's Gravenhage reports that the President of the United States has purchased a work by Charles Dankmeijer (see clipping), depicting a landscape in the Renkum area!
