  • large, late 1940s or early 1950s colour lithograph by Jan Wiegers depicting a Swiss landscape near Davos. Signed in pencil, in reasonably good (some light folds) condition and placed in a simple paper passe partout.

Jan Wiegers was born on July 31, 1893 in Oldehove (Groningen prov.) and died on November 30, 1959 in Amsterdam. Wiegers received his training as an artist at the Akademie Minerva in Groningen and later in Rotterdam and The Hague. In 1918 he was co-founder of the Groningen artists group “De Ploeg” with Jan Altink and Johan Dijkstra. For health reasons he left with his family in 1920 for Davos in Switzerland. Here he met the Berlin Expressionist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. Wiegers was influenced by his way of working and that is reflected in the brighter colors in his work.
