Marinel Vieleers - Where to

At the center of my abstract paintings is (just as in the past with my sculptures) the beauty of the ephemeral. My inspiration comes mainly from ancient cultures, old buildings and objects, walls and weathered materials. The remains of walls, houses, the work that others have done there fascinate me. It's a piece of history. When I start painting, the basis can be based on an abstract image or on concrete observations. By going back with my imagination to the past of people, buildings, a wall or something else and then moving away from the existing form of the subject, we no longer remind it of its real function. By painting, step by step, layer by layer, I venture into the unknown. I wonder where I'll end up. I use different materials and techniques together and always encounter new challenges, new inspiration, new experience.
