Remko Watjer was a Dutch artist from Groningen and a pupil of the painter Jan Altink. Watjer was very active in the Groningen art world and painted portraits of influential Groningen artists in his early figurative period. He is best known for the liveliness of his portraits and his strong use of colour. Watjer spent some years in South Africa later in his life and later in Paris where he studied at the Académie André Lhote. His work can be seen in the Centraal Museum in Utrecht. He died in 1989.
