Photos are part of the description. Toon Franckx was born on January 3, 1909 in Lier. He lived all his life in the parental home in the Dijkje. After his studies at Sint-Gummarus College, he started working as a diamond worker (1928-1931) and at Gevaert (1937-1940). During the Second World War he lent a hand in the parental leather goods shop. From 1944 to 1974 he and his brother Paul published the weekly magazine 'De Netestad'. As a painter he was self-taught. He was close friends with Frans Ros and Felix De Winter, directors of the Lierse art academy. In 1965 he was one of the co-founders of art circle Konvent. His oeuvre includes an impressive series of Lierse townscapes, landscapes, church interiors, portraits and still lifes.
