Pierre van SOEST (Venlo 1930 - Amsterdam 2001)
Pierre van Soest followed his art education from 1947-1949 at the State Academy of Art in Amsterdam. He taught at the Ateliers 63 in Haarlem from 1965 to 1971 and then, from 1972 to 1987, at the Academy of Art and Design in Den Bosch.
Van Soest settled in Amsterdam in 1947, but from 1964 Van Soest lived and worked alternately in Amsterdam and Helle (Nuth, South Limburg).
Drawing has always been of vital importance to Van Soest, his paintings have always been accompanied by countless sketches and drawings. Sketches by van Soest were an aid, but can also be seen as an autonomous work of art. It was an interaction, paintings also provided new ideas for sketches. Pierre van Soest's early work has often been labeled as post-Cobra because of its abstract expressionist style. Van Soest himself did not agree with this. From the late 1960s, Pierre van Soest started painting in series. When he was captivated by a particular motif, this gave rise to a whole series of works. Such as 'Umbrellas', 'Insects', 'Weekend Film' and 'Portrait of Helle'. Van Soest has also worked in the field of monumental arts and executed wall paintings and concrete reliefs in public and private buildings in the Netherlands.
Exhibitions and prizes:
Pierre van Soest has had exhibitions throughout the Netherlands and has participated in many group exhibitions.
His work is represented in many different public and private collections, including museums, municipalities, banks and companies.
